Why Photos Make Your Quote Faster
Good photos let us plan the layout and bring the right samples to your first visit, so the written quote comes back sooner and with fewer surprises.
We still measure every room in person before building; ceilings are never quite what photos suggest. But a set of photos tells us the ceiling shape, the features the beams must respect and the colors we will be matching. That means one productive visit instead of two.
We reply the same business day, usually in about 5 minutes during business hours. When you are ready, you can request your free in-home measurement and upload your photos in the same form.
The Photo Checklist
Ten photos cover almost every ceiling: four wide shots of the room, three of the ceiling, two of the features and one of your floors and cabinets.
| Photo | How to take it | What it tells us |
|---|---|---|
| 1 to 4. The room from each corner | Phone held horizontally, ceiling and floor in frame | Room shape, ceiling type and sightlines |
| 5. Straight up from the center | Stand in the middle and point the phone at the ceiling | Ceiling surface, fixtures and vents |
| 6. Ceiling to wall, long side | Frame where the ceiling meets the longest wall | How flat the ceiling is and where beams would end |
| 7. Ceiling to wall, short side | Same, on the shorter wall | Beam direction options |
| 8. The fireplace wall | Whole wall, floor to ceiling | What beams should line up with |
| 9. Windows and doors | The wall with the most openings | Spacing constraints |
| 10. Floors and cabinets in daylight | Near a window, no flash | The colors we will match |
Tips for Better Photos
Turn on all the lights, open the blinds and skip the flash, which flattens wood color. Wide-angle mode helps in small rooms. One photo of an inspiration room you love, from anywhere, is worth sending too.
The Five Measurements to Send
Five numbers let us sketch a layout before the visit: room length, room width, ceiling height, the height at the peak if the ceiling slopes, and the distance between the main features.
- 1
Room length.
Wall to wall along the longest side.
- 2
Room width.
Wall to wall across the room.
- 3
Ceiling height.
Floor to ceiling at the wall. On a flat ceiling, one number is enough.
- 4
Peak height on a vaulted ceiling.
If you can't reach it, estimate from the number of drywall sheets or stair landings; we measure it exactly at the visit. See how we plan beams for vaulted ceilings.
- 5
Distance between features.
For example, from the fireplace center to each side wall, or between windows.
Rough numbers for room size and height are fine. A tape measure and five minutes are all you need.
The Details That Change the Quote
Four details shape the quote as much as the photos: your wood and finish preference, the number of pieces, your target date and what else is happening in the room.
The Look
- Wood species you like
- Smooth or rustic
- Stain idea or inspiration photo
The Scope
- Beams only, or a mantel and shelves too
- Rooms involved
- Lights in or near the beams
The Timing
- Target date: holidays, a visit, a listing
- Remodel or new build
- Other trades in the house
To see how each detail affects the price, read what changes beam cost. If you haven't decided how many beams you want, start with beam spacing basics.
What We Can and Can't Tell From Photos
Photos are enough for a layout idea and a sample plan, but not for a final price: the written quote always follows an in-home measurement.
| From photos we can | We still need the visit to |
|---|---|
| See the ceiling shape and style of the room | Measure every length and angle exactly |
| Suggest beam direction and count | Locate the framing for fastening |
| Pick which samples to bring | Match color in your light, next to your floors |
| Spot fixtures and vents to plan around | Check how flat and level the ceiling is |
What Happens After You Send Them
We reply the same business day, book your free visit, measure and show samples, then send a written quote; installation follows about two weeks after material production.
| Step | What happens |
|---|---|
| Reply | Same business day, usually in about 5 minutes during business hours |
| Free visit | Measurement, layout and wood and stain samples in your home |
| Written quote | Built for your room, with the wood, size and finish you chose |
| Production and install | About two weeks from material production to installation |
Frequently Asked Questions
