Our Ceiling Beam Services

We build three kinds of ceiling beams, all three-sided box beams in real wood: clean box beams, beams cut for vaulted ceilings, and rustic beams with real texture.

How to Choose the Right Ceiling Beams

Start with your ceiling shape, then pick the look: box beams suit most flat ceilings, vaulted beams follow a slope, and rustic beams add texture to either.

  3. 3. Built in Our Indian Trail Shop

Each beam is built and finished from real wood in our shop, sized to your ceiling.

  4. 4. Installed and Cleaned Up

We seal off the work area, install your beams and leave your home cleaner than we found it.

What Makes Our Ceiling Beams Different

Our beams are real wood built for your specific ceiling, by a team that measures, builds and installs every one.

  • Real Wood on Every Visible Side

Real grain and texture you can see from below, never molded foam or a printed finish.

  • Sized to Your Ceiling, Not Stock Lengths

We build each beam to the size and length your room needs, not what a catalog offers.

  • Every Angle Measured on Site

We measure slopes and out-of-level ceilings in person, so beams sit tight to the ceiling.

  • Stain Matched to Your Floors

We choose the stain next to your floors and cabinets, and can matching your beams and mantel.

  • Light Construction, Secure Fastening

Hollow box construction keeps beams light, and we fasten each one to the ceiling framing, the joists that carry your ceiling.

  • 5-Year Warranty on Materials and Labor

We are insured, and every beam is backed for 5 years on materials and labor.

Ceiling Beam Mistakes to Avoid

Most ceiling beam regrets come from three design mistakes and three warning signs in the quote, and all six are easy to catch before you sign.

Common Design Mistakes

Beams Too Small for the Ceiling

On a tall or vaulted ceiling, thin beams read as trim. Beam size should grow with ceiling height and room width, so we size them in person.

Spacing That Fights the Room

Beams look right when they line up with the room's main features, like the fireplace, windows or island. Plan the layout around them.

A Stain That Clashes With the Floors

A sample that looks right in a store can clash at home. Choose the stain next to your floors and cabinets, in your own light.

Warning Signs in a Beam Quote

No Measurement in Your Home

A quote from photos alone misses slopes and out-of-level ceilings. Ask for an in-home measurement before you commit.

Foam Sold as "Wood-Look"

"Wood-look" often means molded foam. Ask exactly what the beam is made of and whether every visible side is real wood.

No Written Warranty

Ask what is covered and for how long. Ours is a 5-year warranty on materials and labor, in writing.

Decorative vs Structural Beams

Our ceiling beams are decorative: they are built to look like timber, not to carry the weight of your roof or floor. If you are removing a wall or need a beam to hold load, that is a structural beam designed by a licensed engineer or contractor. Decorative beams can't replace it.

Ceiling Beam Questions, Answered

These are the ceiling beam questions Charlotte-area homeowners ask us most before booking a visit.

How much do custom ceiling beams cost?

It depends on the wood species, the size and number of beams, your ceiling height and the finish. We measure during a free in-home visit and send a written quote. See what changes the cost of ceiling beams.

How many beams does my room need?

It depends on the length of the room, the ceiling height and the features you want the beams to line up with. We plan the layout with you during the visit. Our ceiling beam spacing guide explains the basics.

Which direction should ceiling beams run?

Usually across the shorter dimension of the room or in line with its main feature, such as a fireplace or a wall of windows. We check the room and the framing on site before recommending a direction.

What size should my ceiling beams be?

Beam size should grow with ceiling height and room width, so taller rooms need larger beams. We recommend a size for your ceiling during the in-home visit.

Are box beams real wood?

Yes. Our three-sided box beams are real wood on every visible side, built in our Indian Trail, NC shop. See our wood box beams.

Can you install beams on a vaulted ceiling?

Yes. We measure every angle on site and build the beams to fit your vaulted or cathedral ceiling. See our vaulted ceiling beams.

Do decorative beams need to be structural?

No. Our beams are decorative and lightweight, built to look like timber without carrying load. A beam that must hold weight is a structural job for a licensed engineer or contractor.

What wood and finishes can I choose?

Pine, white oak, red oak, maple, walnut and poplar, plus character-grade and rough-sawn lumber. We choose the stain with you in your own light. Compare species in the best wood for ceiling beams.

How long does a ceiling beam project take?

About two weeks from material production to installation. Most of the work happens in our shop, so time inside your home is short.

Will real wood beams crack or warp?

We choose and prepare every board in our own shop, seal each piece, and back our work with a 5-year warranty on materials and labor.
